Buddy Activity - Obstacle Course
In the Physical Education program, the MRA students will be provided with a curriculum that provides a balanced program of instruction to several sports, fitness, health, and dance activities. This program will build lifelong skills to help promote teamwork, individual growth, problem solving, and communication skills.
A typical PE lesson includes:
Warm Up: (2-3 minutes) Warming up before participating in vigorous exercise is important to prepare the muscles, ligaments, joints, and heart and circulatory system for activity. It also helps reduce injury and improve motor skill performance.
Activity: (20 minutes )
K-2 Graders -Building a Foundation is the activity that the kindergarten through second graders will start the year with. This unit establishes class environment and behavioral expectations of students. Some of the motor development concepts addressed include: body and spacial awareness, locomotor and non-locomotor skills, directionality, pathways, levels, and tempos. To enhance their social and personal development, children learn to share, cooperate, take turns, and experience personal success through movement.
3-8 Graders- Cooperative Games is the activity that the third through eighth graders will be working on. These games are designed to help students build relationships, enhance communication skills, and provide opportunities to work together to solve challenges. Cooperation, encouragement, trust and teamwork are skills the students will be practicing. And of course, the games are FUN!
Cool Down (3-5 minutes) - Students will return equipment and review learning points with a cool down/closure. Tapering from vigorous activity helps students’ bodies return to normal functioning levels and fosters easier transitions to the classroom.
Some additional lessons the students will be participating in this year will include: K-2 Graders: cooperative games, catching and throwing, jump rope, kicking and trapping, dance, volleying and striking, and playground games.
3-8 Graders: cooperative games, disc golf, badminton, baseball, jump rope, soccer, dance, playground games and fitness.
The PE class expectations are:
* Try new things
* Do your personal best
* Respect your classmates and yourself
* Believe you are amazing
* Have FUN!
Please provide safe athletic shoes for your child on PE days.
In the Cedars Health program, the students will establish skills that will enable them to make safe and healthy choices throughout their lives. The program is a progression of information and learning that meets the needs of this age group. Our focus is primarily based upon the Cedars themes, which hold the philosophy that when students have accurate information and build self advocacy skills, they can make better choices for themselves and be more responsible members of the community
The Health Lifestyle Choices (HLC) Middle School Program, is guided by the national health standards. The seventh and eighth graders will be split up according to their grade and will attend class for 45 minutes twice a week. The following concepts will be covered this year:
Goal Setting
Environment
Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs
Social and Anti-Social Behaviors
Stress Management
Injury Prevention/Violence
Diseases and Disorders
Health classes will include skill building strategies, activities and discussions that integrate health education. We'll be using students handouts, worksheets and short and long term assignments to introduce key elements. Assessments include journaling, performance tasks, vocabulary, role play and presentations.
I’m looking forward to playing with your children!
