Today was MRA's Jog-a-thon! The kids did a fantastic job jogging to earn money for their play space. Thank you for the wonderful Boosters for running this fun event. There were many parents that stood out in the rain to support our students: they counted laps, gave out water, and cheered on the runners. The music set up in the pirate ship blasted out great tunes that kept the runners enthusiasm going.
Tag games aren't only fun for students, they teach a number of basic movement skills that lead toward other more complex games and sports. Many tag games teach cooperation, teamwork and strategic thinking. It's been fun to introduce these games to students and enjoy their smiles and laughter! All MRA students established and practiced basic school rules for Tag. The purpose to identifying these rules is so that students use the same rules when they play in before-care, PE class, recess and after-care. Playing by the same rules will reduce confusion, keep the game flowing, and help keep the students stay safe.
ASAP - The students have been practicing how to "pace" themselves as they jogged around a track in the gym for their warm up. The amount of time they jogged increased as the week went on.
K-2 Graders - The students played Partner Tag, Flag Wag and 360 Tag. They practiced using light touches (butterfly wings) on their friend's arms or shoulders.
3rd-8th Graders - The students enjoyed Elbow Tag, Fox and the Squirrel Tag, a nd Everybody's It Tag (with and without balls).
7th/8th Grade Health Class - The students are continuing to monitor their personal goals in health class. They are learning about making short and long term goals and how they help make decisions and motivate to accomplish things that you want out of life. They are ending health class with Minute-To-Win It activities to build community.
