ASAP Activities -All students start each PE class with an "ASAP." (As Soon As Possible) activity. The kindergarten through second graders are playing a game called "Roadway" and the third through eighth graders are jogging and doing exercises for their ASAP.
K-2nd Grade - The students are working on their fundamental skills of "Catching and Throwing" in PE class. This unit offers movement exploration by introducing and integrating practice with balls and other objects of various sizes, shapes, and weights. the activities include cues for rolling balls, and throwing underhand and overhand. Students practice throwing for accuracy and distance, at both stationary and moving targets. Throws are combined with catching skills - from a bounce and in the air, with hands and scoops.
3rd - 8th Grade - These students are participating in the unit of Volleyball. They will be learning and practicing the following skills: Forearm Pass (Bump), Overhead Pass (Set), Hitting (Spike) and the Underhand Serve. Students are given "extensions" in order for them to challenge themselves to their own abilities when it's appropriate. A variety of volleyballs are offered, such as beach balls and trainers, in order to offer students choices of equipment that make it easier to pass and strike. The goal is to be able to play a variation to the game of volleyball at the end of the unit.
Leadership Groups -
Leaderfit - This Leadership group of students did a great job of creating and performing in the Celebration of Learning Assembly. They presented a "Parking Patrol Skit" that incorporated the Chicken Dance and a humorous parking patrol situation. It was enjoyed by all.
Assembly Team - This Leadership group of students worked hard to set up and facilitate the Celebration of Learning Assembly. The assemblies purpose was to showcase the different subjects that our MRA students get to experience outside of the classrooms. Some of the subjects are taught in electives, and some of them are from after school classes. Some of the subjects included: Zumba, Drama, DaVinci, Alders Art, Robotics, Photography, Spanish, and OBOB,
Leaderfit will be meeting next Thursday, Jan. 10th. The Assembly Team will be meeting to prepare for the "Share the Love" assembly on Feb. 6th.
